Sandra S. BeckwithThe Honorable Sandra S. Beckwith '68. The Honorable Sandra S. Beckwith was appointed by President George H.W. Bush to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio on February 21, 1992. On September 1, 2004, Judge Beckwith became the first woman Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. She also serves on the Defender Services Committee of the United States Judicial Conference.

Mark PainterThe Honorable Mark P. Painter '73. Judge Mark Painter was elected to the Court of Appeals in 1994 and re-elected without opposition since. Previously he served on the Hamilton County Municipal Court for 13 years. In March 2009, he was elected by the General Assembly of the United Nations for a seat on the United Nations Appeals Tribunal, and will assume that office in July. A Cincinnati native, Judge Painter attended the University of Cincinnati, where he was elected Student Body President in 1969. He earned a BA in 1970 and a JD in 1973. He practiced law for nine years before becoming a judge, mostly with a firm that later became part of Thompson Hine.

John PeytonJohn F. Peyton, Jr. '69 (posthumously). John Peyton, Jr., a 1966 graduate from the University of Dayton and a retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel, received his law degree in 1969 from UC Law and a Masters of Law in the field of law, psychiatry, and criminology from George Washington University. After law school, John served as an associate general counselor for the Central Intelligence Agency, serving as chief litigator for many years before becoming an assistant U.S. Attorney for the next 20 years with the U.S. Department of Justice; 18 of those years were spent in Hawaii overseeing the Drug and Organized Crime Section of the United States Attorney’s Office. He served as interim director of the Hawaii High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area and chaired the Law Enforcement Committee of the Weed and Seed program. He conducted investigations, trials, and appeals in the areas of fraud, money laundering, drugs, firearms, organized crime, civil rights, and civil and criminal asset forfeiture cases.
