Nancy Oliver
Associate Dean for Curriculum and Student Affairs and Professor of Legal Research and Writing

Professor Oliver earned her JD in 1990 from the University of Cincinnati where she was a Fellow in the Urban Morgan Institute for Human Rights and Articles Editor of the Human Rights Quarterly, a member of Law Review, and recipient of the William Worthington Prize for Best Case Note. After law school, Professor Oliver worked as a Law Clerk for Judge David A. Nelson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. She has also served as in-house counsel for Community Mutual Insurance Company in Cincinnati and FFG Insurance Company in Dallas. Also while living in Dallas, she taught courses in Lawyering and in Legal Research and Writing at Southern Methodist University School of Law.

In 2009, Professor Oliver became the Associate Dean for Curriculum and Student Affairs and Professor of Legal Research and Writing. She has taught Legal Research and Writing, Advocacy, and coordinated the Academic Success Program. Professor Oliver is the author of Coming Face-to-Face with a Legal Research and Writing Client, 13 Persps. 149 (2005).

Summer 2009

Nancy was appointed to the Ohio Department of Health Director’s Advisory Committee on Emerging Infections. She spoke at a dinner meeting sponsored by the Milbank Memorial Fund and the Reforming States Group in New York City about the new rules in Ohio that will require hospitals to publically report performance measures to consumers, including measures related to hospital-acquired infections. While in New York, she also spoke at a lunch-time gathering at the Yonkers office of Consumer’s Union about the same topics.

June 2009

Nancy Oliver was appointed Associate Dean for Curriculum and Student Affairs at the College of Law.

January 2009

Nancy was quoted in Infection Rate Reporting Plan Faces Opposition, Cleveland Plain Dealer, Dec. 16, 2008, at E1.

October 2008

Nancy attended the conference on Legal Education at the Crossroads: Ideas to Implementation at the University of Washington.

Summer 2008

The Provost has approved Nancy's promotion to the rank of Professor of Legal Research and Writing and reappointment for a five-year term. Nancy was named Interim Associate Dean.

June 2008

Nancy has been appointed Interim Associate Dean for Curriculum and Student Affairs, effective July 1, 2008. Nancy was quoted in:

February 2008

Nancy was appointed to serve on the Infection Control Group committee coordinated by the Ohio Department of Health. The committee will study and recommend quality standards relating to hospital-acquired infections.

Summer 2007

Nancy was appointed Associate Professor of Legal Research and Writing. She attended a conference on preparing winning briefs and oral arguments in Las Vegas.
